Deal Contacts

Track who you're working with on each deal.

Overview

Every deal can have associated contacts — the people you're actively engaging with to close the deal. Deal contacts are pulled from the account's contact list and show relationship intelligence badges (Champion, Decision Maker, Gatekeeper, Detractor).

Adding Contacts to a Deal

On the deal detail page, the Deal Contacts section lets you add contacts from the account. Click Add Contact, select a contact, optionally assign a deal-specific role (e.g. "Technical Evaluator"), and save.

You can also manage the deal’s contacts directly from the My Breadbox deal popout on the right-hand panel. The Contacts section shows every contact on the account with a star icon next to each one:

  • Solid amber star — current primary contact
  • Empty star on a deal-linked contact — click to make them primary (auto-unmarks the previous one)
  • Empty star on an unlinked account contact — click to add them to the deal AND make them primary in one step
  • Add link — adds an unlinked contact to the deal as a non-primary
  • Remove link — removes a non-primary contact from the deal (they remain on the account)

Contact Badges

  • Champion (amber star) — your internal advocate
  • Decision Maker (green shield) — has authority to sign
  • Gatekeeper (blue) — controls access to decision makers
  • Detractor (red warning) — may block the deal

Quick Actions

Each deal contact has an Email button to open the compose modal (sends via your connected Gmail/Outlook) and a Call link for phone contacts. All sent emails are logged as touchpoints.

Auto-linking on deal creation

Breadbox auto-links the account’s primary contact to a new deal so you don’t have to. The rules:

  • Account has exactly one contact → linked as the deal’s primary contact
  • Account has multiple contacts with one marked Primary → that one is linked as primary
  • Account has multiple contacts and none marked Primary → no auto-link (you choose manually)

Applies to every deal creation path: Qualify-to-deal from Focus Mode, manual deal creation from the Pipeline page, the public REST API, and CSV bulk import. The carried-over role from AccountContact (e.g. BUDGET_OWNER) becomes the deal-contact role unless you change it later.
